Armed men suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have attacked and killed an official of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC at Tse Torkula, Benue State. The deceased was working on the petroleum pipeline with his colleagues in the area. According to Vanguard, the NNPC officials were busy working on the pipeline between Benue and Nasarawa state when they came under heavy fire from the armed men. Some of the officials were also injured and hospitalized. The Benue state Police Commissioner, Fatai Owoseni, who confirmed the incident, said the attack could be regarded as the handiwork of bandits operating in the said areas. ...
The National Chairman of Fulbe (Fulani) Development Association of Nigeria (FULDAN), Malam Ahmad Usman Bello, has declared that they cannot be defeated by any ethnic group in the country. Bello made the remarks while speaking with Saturday Tribune in Kano, amid the widespread outcry against the murderous activities of Fulani herdsmen in Benue, Plateau and Taraba states and many other parts of the country. “Take it or not, Fulanis have remained unbeatable; no ethnic group can fight us face to face. The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has said there is no need setting up cattle colonies in the South East geopolitical zone. The Chairman of MACBAN in Anambra, Alhaji Sadiq Gidado, said this on Friday at a news conference in Awka. Gidado said the establishment of cattle colonies in the area was not necessary because of the harmonious relationship existing between members of the association and the residents. The new Director General is Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, a retired career Foreign Service officer, till his appointment served as Senior Special Assistant to the President (SSAP) on Foreign Affairs/International Relations. Abubakar had extensive experience working with the United Nations in peace support operations, mediation process, preventive diplomacy and good offices, as well as the promotion of good governance and respect for the rule of law and human rights. The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has explained why the military was yet to rescue the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) lecturers, oil workers and women abducted by Boko Haram terrorists. According to Director of Defence Information (DDI), Maj.- Gen. John Enenche, the sect was using the captives as a shield. He noted that the troops could not apply full force to free them owing to the collateral damage that could follow such decision.
