Pupils Flee Damaturu Schools Over Injection Rumour

Parents on Monday withdrew their children from public primary schools in Damaturu , forcing the schools to shut down over rumours of an unusual injection being administered on the children . The News Agency of Nigeria reports that there are rumours in the town that an unnamed non -governmental organisation was injecting pupils in public primary schools in the town . There was pandemonium as angry parents stormed the schools to evacuate their children , with some confronting teachers who attempted to explain that it was a false alarm . Members of the House of Representatives have in Tuesday’s plenary jettisoned Federal government’s policy which put Christian Religious Knowledge, CRK under Civic Education and made same compulsory in Secondary School curriculum. This followed a motion filed by Hon. Beni Lar, Plateau state, titled “Call to make Civic Education an optional instead of a compulsory subject for Senior Certificate Examination.” After an exhaustive debate on the motion, the members agreed that the policy was incongruent with the spirit and letters of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) on the provision of religious liberties.
