The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has urged the public to disregard online publications that it is recruiting ad hoc staff ahead of 2019 elections. According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the commission said it was aware of some social media publications telling the public that it would recruit 100,000 ad hoc personnel for 2019 general elections. It said that information in the publications were false and should be ignored. “This information is false. The general public should disregard it because INEC is not recruiting at the moment; don’t be swindled,’’ INEC however, advised the public to contact the Commission for proper information and guide on any issue concerning the electoral process.

Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, on Sunday alleged that soldiers are currently in the residence of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu. Fani-Kayode alleged that the soldiers are “packing all his furniture, electronic equipment, carpets, personal items, clothes.” The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chieftain made the claim on his official twitter handle. “The army is in Nnamdi Kanu’s house right now packing all his furniture, electronic equipment, carpets, personal items, clothes etc.. WHY?,” he wrote. The IPOB leader has neither been seen nor heard from since his residence was allegedly invaded by security operatives on September 14.

Resident doctors across Nigeria have commenced a nationwide indefinite strike. The doctors resolved to proceed on the strike after a meeting of its national leadership that ended in the early hours of Monday. In a brief statement obtained by Vanguard Newspapers, the President of the National Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, Onyebueze John, said, “Rising from our NEC meeting, which started by 7pm yesterday and ended 3am today. NARD has resolved to reject the promissory offer from Government, and proceed on total and indefinite strike action until all items in her demand list for strike action are resolved by Government.” The doctors later refuted the statement, saying though they met with the government, but were yet to take a decision.
