Senator Dino Melaye raised a point of order saying his privilege as a Federal Lawmaker and that of the Senate was breached by the statement made by Senator Omo-Agege. Last week Wednesday, the Senate adopted a conference committee report on the amendment of the 2010 electoral Act. A key amendment in the report sets a sequence for the general elections in the country. The amendment proposed that the National Assembly election should come first and the Presidential election last. Senator Isa Misau, representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District, has asked the Senate to probe the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, over alleged corrupt practices and misconduct. Senator Misau stated this during Wednesday's plenary. He reiterated his earlier allegations against Idris, including the IGP’s recent alleged “secret” marriage to a serving policewoman against the public service rule. The lawmaker had recently alleged that the police was collecting about N120bn annually from corporate organisations and ‘very important personalitiess’ for security services, an allegation he made again on the floor of the Senate.

Yesterday, the Senate  gave Globacom and 30 other companies being quizzed over alleged complicity in the N30 trillion federal revenue loss in the import and export value chain one week to defend themselves. The Senate’s Joint Committee on Customs, Excise and Tariff, and Marine Transport, investigation the leakage, gave the order at a meeting with the companies in Abuja. The committee provided copies of documents detailing the alleged infractions by the companies, including a list of 2,554 shipments with infractions pertaining to unutilised Bill of Laden, to their representatives. The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) on Wednesday reacted to the allegation that 282 vessels under its watch had gone missing. The agency stated that after carrying out a thorough internal check, it was yet to find any evidence supporting the allegation. In a statement titled: ‘Alleged 282 Missing Vessels: Our Position’ issued yesterday by the NPA and signed by its Principal Manager, Ibrahim Nasiru, the authority explained that following allegations that 282 vessels got missing under the watch of the NPA between 2010 and 2016 by the Senate Committee on Customs, Excise and Tariff, the management of the NPA wishes to state that it has no evidence to support the allegation.
