O’odua People’s Congress (OPC) founder, Frederick Fasehun, on Tuesday said President Muhammadu Buhari will lose in 2019 if he doesn’t perform “magic” in his remaining months in office. Fasehun, at a news conference in Lagos, noted that the present administration had to do more to win the confidence of Nigerians. “Children don’t get promoted to the next class unless they have done well in the current class”, he said. “If Nigerians are saying that the current government is performing below expectations, I don’t think anybody in this current government has the right to ask Nigerians for their votes again. “Of course, they still have about two years to perform, if they perform so beautifully, Nigerians can forgive them. “But, I don’t think this government is perfo
Former vice president Atiku Abubakar Monday demanded the sum of N200 billion from Paul Unongo, a leader of the Northern Elders Forum, and threatened to file a libel suit against him, for accusing him of being a financier of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria. Atiku issued the demand and threat in a letter through his lawyer, Mahmud Magaji (SAN). He asked Unongo to retract “the blatant and malicious falsehood” within seven days, to be published in all national newspapers. Atiku also asked Unongo to, within 30 days of receiving the letter, pay him (Atiku) N200bn as damages. The former vice president, in his letter, referred to the publication on page 3 of Saturday PUNCH of January 6, 2018 (Vol. 7413), in which Unongo’s claims were reported. Unongo had
Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President, has launched a fresh attack on the Federal Government, saying Nigerians are currently “jobless, hopeless.” The former Vice President said this while reacting to insinuations that national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu was in support of his 2019 presidential ambition. Speaking through his media aide, Paul Ibe, Abubakar stressed that he has become the issue in Nigerian politics because Nigerians have seen him as the best option in the face of the challenges they are facing. The Waziri of Adamawa maintained that the current administration has no solutions to Nigeria’s problems except blame game. In a chat with The Sun, Ibe said: “As such, he will be the subject of falsehoods and accusations. It come
Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan has ‘attacked’ Governor of Kaduna state, Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, describing the governor as a double faced individual who switches at any given time. This was posted on his twitter handle alongside a picture of El-Rufai kneeling for Atiku Abubakar, Olusegun Obasanjo and Buhari respectively. Omokri, therefore, urged Nigerians to pray to be set free from the likes of Kaduna governor. He wrote, “The man who kneels to you when he needs you and stabs you in the back when he no longer needs you. May God deliver Nigeria from your likes! Recall that there has been the war of words between the Kaduna State governor and Senator representing Bayelsa east, Senator Ben Murray Bruce over who should be giv
President Donald Trump has dismissed all allegations questioning his ability to be president of the United States of America, referring to himself as a “very stable genius”. Trump’s reaction follows the release of a bombshell book, Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House by Michael Wolff that questioned his mental stability The publication claimed Trump never intended to enter the Oval Office and his staff believed he was not fit to hold high offices. The book is currently the talk of the town. In a series of tweets Trump said, “throughout my life, my two greatest assets have been mental stability and being, like, really smart. “Now that Russian collusion, after one year of intense study, has proven to be a total hoax on the American public, the Democrats
The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has distanced the governing party from the embarrassment occasioned by dead persons who were included as chairmen and members of boards of federal government’s parastatals and agencies. Stating the side of his party when he hosted newsmen in his house in Abuja, yesterday, the APC chairman argued that the federal government would have avoided the embarrassment it suffered with its action if it had involved the party in the final compilation of the list. It could be recalled that senior special assistant to the president on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, has in defence of the error explained that President Buhari had requested for the submission of 50 names each by the state chapters of the A

I do not believe in my mind that the way things are in Nigeria that any Catholic priest has the mandate to decide which of the political contestants should be voted for…I don’t believe a priest should be doing that…If he was in my archdiocese, I will have sanctioned him long ago for the kind of utterances he makes.” – John Cardinal Onaiyekan, Catholic Bishop of Abuja Metropolitan See on Fr. Ejike Mbaka (2015) Prophecies and predictions by Christian pastors often mark the end of a year and the beginning of another in Nigeria…egged on by the media, looking for juicy material for their overtly religious and superstitious readers, these pastors sometimes overreach themselves as they dish out prophecies as if they were some kind of annual merchandise. This year has not been different wit
Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has branded Ben Murray-Bruce, Senator representing Bayelsa East a liar. El-Rufai said the business mogul is feeding the public with wrong information about the Lagos-Kano dual track-standard gauge rail system. Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had on Thursday commissioned 10 new coaches and two locomotives for the Abuja-Kaduna route. Reacting to the commissioning of the coaches, the Senator said Buhari should have commended former President, Goodluck Jonathan for “the train ride he enjoyed in Kaduna.” Noting that the achievement was entirely the handiwork of the Jonathan’s administration, Bruce added, ”Nigeria should give honour to whom honour is due”. In his reaction, the governor called out the lawmaker, saying he, Bruce,
