The ongoing Senate probe into various allegations against the Inspector-General of Police Ibrahim Idris was stalled on Wednesday, following the inability of the Police Boss to appear before the committee. Senate, however, insisted that the IGP must appear next Tuesday. Senator Isah Hamman Misau (Bauchi Central), had accused IGP Idris of unduly promoting officers of the Police Force and also extorting money from Commissioners of Police before posting. Misau also accused Idris of extorting money from oil companies and private individuals, who enjoy special security services of the Police. The Senate has postponed the commencement of its planned investigation into the alleged award of $25 billion worth of contracts in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).C Following the allegation of abuse of due process made by the Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu, against the NNPC Group Managing Director, Dr. Maikanti Baru, the Senate resolved to investigate the matter. The upper chamber also resolved to investigate Baru over alleged insubordination and abuse of office as contained in the leaked Kachikwu’s letter to President Muhammadu Buhari. The Lagos State Police Command, has revealed the autopsy of Late Tagbo Umeike, a friend of Nigerian music star, Davido. Acting Police Commissioner, Imohimi Edgal, said Tagbo died from suffocation. Edgal made the disclosure during a press briefing, on Wednesday in Lagos. He also disclosed that Davido has been re-invited for questioning over Tagbo’s death. Details soon..

The Senate disclosed, yesterday, that it has concluded arrangements to expose all the commercial banks and operatives of the now collapsed ponzi scheme, popularly known as MMM (Mavrodi Mondial Movement) and make them to face appropriate sanctions. Speaking with journalists, yesterday, in Abuja, Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on ICT and Cybercrime, Senator Foster Ogola (PDP Bayelsa West), disclosed that as a way of preventing such fraud in future, the Senate would soon come up with a legislation making digital education compulsory in both primary and secondary schools.  According to him, in the move to expose all those who were involved in the MMM fraud, an international expert in unearthing cyberspace and banking crimes is already in the country on the invitation of the committee.

Justice Letam Nyordee of a High Court in Port Harcourt has sentenced three out of the seven people facing trial in the killing of four students of the University of Port Harcourt popularly called Aluu4 to death. Those sentenced to death include, ex-Sergeant Lucky Orji, Ikechukwu Luis Amadi and David Chinasa Ogbonda. the report shows that the other four suspects facing trial; Abiodun Yusuf, Joshua Ekpe, Abang Cyril, and John Ayu were discharged and acquitted for lack of overwhelming evidence. The IGP, Ibrahim Idris, has approved the special promotion of policemen who participated in the arrest of Lagos most wanted kidnapper, Duneme Onwuamadike otherwise known as Evans. Recall that Evans, who is believed to be the richest kidnaper in Nigeria was arrested in Lagos on Saturday, June 10 by policemen while he prepared to travel out of the country by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), lead by ACP Abba Kyari. The IGP, who has been receiving encomiums from the Presidency for the arrest decided to motivate his men to do more exploits. The Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), has arrested two suspected kidnappers, whose gang have been allegedly terrorising Kogi and its environs, the Commander, ACP Abba Kyari, has said. Kyari, confirmed the arrest to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Monday. Kyari said that following the Kidnapping of Alhaji Jibrin Idris, an Islamic Scholar in Enabo, Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi, on Feb. 2, police launched a manhunt for the kidnappers. He said that the effort was in response to the Inspector- General of Police, Ibrahim Idris’s, directive to the IRT. he Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has denied allegation that one of its top officials owns landed property and houses valued at over N10.6 billion, describing it as deliberate falsehood and campaign of calumny. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has said it arrested a 54-year-old single mother of four at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos with 32 wraps of cocaine. The suspect, identified as Owolabi Oluwayemisi Modinat was apprehended during the outward screening of passengers on a Qatar Airline flight to Saudi Arabia. According to NDLEA, the 32 wraps of substances she ingested, which tested positive for cocaine, weighed 330 grammes. Upon questioning, the suspect who hails from Kwara State, explained that poverty led her into drug trafficking. She told NDLEA officials after her arrest that she hawks tea and bread to earn a living in Lagos prior to when her sponsors promised to transform her life through the trafficking of hard drugs to the Holy Land. ...
