The Abia State governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, yesterday told his Imo State counterpart, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, that he was comfortable in Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), dismissing insinuations that he was planning to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He further maintained that Abia State remains a PDP state, stressing that he was not just a card carrying member but one of the pillars of the party in Nigeria.
The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Enyinnaya Appolos, told LEADERSHIP that, while the Abia State governor is focused on delivering good governance rather than idling with politics, he remains the leader of PDP in the state.
Recall that Okorocha, after a meeting of APC members in the South-east, had declared that the three governors elected on the platform of PDP were planning to defect to the APC.
Besides the Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano who is the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the other governors who are PDP members in the zone are Ikpeazu of Abia State; Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State.
When contacted Ikpeazu’s chief press secretary, who stressed that Abia State was a PDP state, added: “Governor Okezie Ikpeazu is not currently in the mood for party politics. He is in the good governance mood with focus on delivering massive dividends of democracy to Abia electorate that voted massively for him in 2015 to become the 4th democratically elected governor of God’s Own State of Abia, on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“Abia is a PDP state and Governor Ikpeazu is not just a card-carrying member of the PDP in Abia, he is the leader of the party in the state and one of the current pillars of the party in Nigeria today. He is comfortable in PDP.”
