Teachers in Kaduna state have raised alarm over what they say could be a violation of the law. They say they are in receipt of information that the government is set to send letters of termination of appointment to several of them. But the teachers say this would be in violation of the law done. They say the industrial court on 14th December restrained the government from sacking any of them based on a competency test. They have threatened to harmonize with their national body for action if the government proceeds with the speculated move. But government officials in Kaduna state insist that the teachers who failed the competency test stand sacked. The governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, has dismissed allegations by some elites in the state that he runs a family government. No fewer than 50 prison inmates will sit for the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), according to an official. The Principal, Ikoyi Prisons School, Mr Idris Ibikunle, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos. The director general of the national youth service corp (NYSC), brig. General Sulieman Kazaure has called on all state governments to show more commitment to the welfare of corp members, by ensuring the prompt upgrade of orientation camp facilities. Kazaure made the call in Ekiti state during his visit to the Ise Emure Ekiti orientation camp as part of his nationwide tour of orientation camps across the country. The NYSC boss, who expressed satisfaction with the level of some facilities at the camp, said the federal government plans to increase the monthly allowance of corps members from the present nineteen thousand eight hundred naira.
The Management of the University of Lagos wishes to inform the general public that the screening exercise of UTME candidates admitted on merit (which commenced on Monday, 4th December, 2017) has been suspended following the disruption of normal academic and administrative activities by the on-going industrial action. The screening exercise earlier scheduled for Monday, 4th to Friday, 15th December, 2017, has been postponed till further notice. New dates would be communicated soon.
